Ballet Scotland is based in the picturesque town of Broughty Ferry on the outskirts of Dundee. Founded in 2011 as 'Ferry Dance School' by Sindy Monson, the academy provides classes for students from the age of 3 years to pre-professional level. The main focus is on Classical Ballet, with supporting studies in contemporary and body conditioning.
Ballet Scotland has a proven success in preparing students for Associate programmes with leading professionals including the Royal Ballet School, Scottish Ballet and Scottish Youth Ballet. Students have also been successful finalists in major competitions such as the Ballet Grand Prix. Graduating students have joined fulltime courses with Dance School of Scotland, KS Dance, Northern School of Contemporary Dance, The Scottish School of Contemporary Dance and Central School of Ballet. |

Laura Mumby
Academy Principal
AIDTA Ballet, Certified Progressing Ballet Technique Instructor
Laura has been teaching at Ballet Academy Scotland since 2013 and was honoured to continue Sindy Monson’s legacy when she took over as owner in 2022. Since moving to Scotland, she has worked with renowned companies such as Scottish Dance Theatre, Shaper Caper, and Scottish Youth Ballet, in addition to guest teaching across Angus, Perth, Falkirk, and Fife. Passionate about inspiring the next generation, Laura strives to be a positive role model for children and young adults, equipping them with lifelong skills such as creativity, discipline, perseverance, motivation, physical fitness, self-respect, and a love for dance.
Laura began her dance training at the age of 3 at the Wendy Foster School of Dance in North Lincolnshire, where she trained until 18. During this time, she performed in professional pantomimes and competed in dance festivals across the country, earning placements in several bursary sections. At 13, she performed her first solo en pointe at the Scunthorpe Dance Festival and was selected to represent her region in the finals.
She went on to achieve RAD Advanced 1 in Ballet and Modern, as well as Grade 5 Tap. At John Leggott College, she pursued A Levels in Dance and Photography. Her passion for dance and the arts led her to showcase a dance photography exhibition at Nottingham Trent university, which opened doors to photographing prestigious companies such as the Royal Ballet, Northern Ballet, and St. Petersburg Ballet.
In 2009, Laura graduated from Nottingham Trent University with a BA (Hons) and then went to travel the world for 3 years working for P&O Cruises. Committed to continuous professional development, she has since then expanded her qualifications through the International Dance Teachers Association (IDTA), earning Intermediate Ballet and Pre-Associate teaching certificate 1 & 2 with Distinction in 2014. She has since progressed to Associate-level teaching certification, achieving this milestone in 2023.
